I just changed to LED light bulbs, and here is why

One important aspect of frugality is energy efficiency, as this can save you a ton of money of the long haul and significantly lower your carbon footprint. Taking public transport or biking to work is a great way to limit your energy wastage, while making energy efficiencies at home can significantly help as well. In this regard, I just changed all my light bulbs in my new house from the old incandescent bulbs to LEDs. The reason is because

LEDs are substantially more efficient, at levels of more than 80% efficient over old incandescent bulbs, and still more than a third more efficient than the more recent CFLs. Also, the expected lifetimes of these bulbs with normal usage is several decades (!!), making the pain of changing light bulbs in difficult to reach areas a thing of the past. Also, you don’t have to worry about mercury escaping from the bulb, as may happen with a CFL or shattering that can occur with either CFLs or incandescent. I bought my bulbs, either 40W or 60W equivalents with white light for the garage, and warmer light for the house, and found good deals at home depot and Costco, with the later recently having 3 bulbs for sale at about $10 after energy rebates, which sounded like a bargain to me!
