Buy Used
February 22, 2014
Perhaps it is best to try and restrain your shopping urges, focusing more on needs than wants. However, if you need something try your best to get it used. This could be from a car to electronics or furniture. For example, many friends are probably trying to upgrade their electronics, which tend to have very short life cycles and so you can get a relatively new printer, computer or phone extremely cheap. My most recent item was a relatively new printer, which was given for free 🙂
One of my favorite places to shop for good deals is Craigslist, it’s great for pretty much everything. Another recommendation is from garage sales, particular neighbors etc who will nearly always give you a great deal (so long as you get on with them).
Also, in my case working at an academic institution proves to be very useful. I am fortunate that many researchers come to work and study for a couple of years from abroad before going home. This results in a steady stream of relatively used items being sold very cheaply in the month or two before they leave. Many large ticket items can be bought cheaply including cars, and I have been lucky to get lots of good quality and relatively new furniture for a low cost and a large screen TV too!
Do you have any recommendations for great places to buy used?
