Telecommute

telecomuteWell, you may not be financially free just yet, but I am hoping you are training those freedom producing muscles. We discussed that riding the bike or walking to and from work is a great frugal and healthy option. However, how about not even going into work at all?

Yes, telecommuting may be a great way to save cash, and even enable you to work in your pyjamas! (I’m glad that I don’t have to see some of my work colleagues in theirs!). Is there an option to telecommute at your work, at least for one day in week? If so it may be a great option, saving on gas and car wear and tear, as well as not having to dine out, in case you are not brown bagging it.

In being a Frugal Prof I am fortunate to have much flexibility in my work schedule, and so I take this telecommute option when I need to have quiet time to focus on writing a scientific article or to work on a grant application, etc. The great thing is that it is saving me money, I can work in a much more comfortable environment, and I can stay in my PJs too. OK, I’ll usually change by lunchtime at least…
