Take the Train, Ride the Bus

TrainPublic transport is a great way to save money and is a less stressful way to commute. Clearly, in the major cities it is much easier, and especially so in parts of Europe, where you can often travel all over very large cities using their subways, trains and buses and on just one type of pass for relatively cheap.

In the US it can be a little harder to commute with public transportation, unless you are in a major urban area, and in my limited experience I found that the Bay Area was pretty great. My first impressions when arriving in Southern California was that it was going to be a little harder. However, for me that is not really the case, as I can catch the bus just a minute or two’s walk outside of my house, and it drops me off right in front of my work. The trip is only 25 minutes and it costs $1.75 each way, which becomes even cheaper if I buy a monthly pass. Right now I am enjoying cycling because of the great weather we have here in southern California, but I’ll keep the bus in mind for when my legs are particularly tired. How about you, can you take public transport for your commute, and have you factored in the cost difference between this and using the car?
