Habits maketh the man or woman
September 1, 2014
You are what you do, so if you really want to do something new or create a positive change in your life, make it into a habit. I’ve heard that it usually takes about three weeks to instill a new habit, so if it’s a little hard in the beginning, don’t worry as the first week or two are often the most difficult, but after that it can become the norm.
Want to get fit? Make it a habit, perhaps 30 mins or 1 hour a day of exercise, the more fun the better. Want to learn a musical instrument? Again, try again to make your practice into a habit. Want to write the best blog in the world, well just make those first steps of writing into a habit.
On the positive side, I am trying to workout everyday, although a day or two’s rest and recovery is fine, especially after doing something particularly vigorous. My blog writing is currently done on the weekends, when I get a free moment, but perhaps I’ll make it into 30 mins a day, to really ingrain the writing and posting habit. These are positive changes, but you maybe trying to remove more negative habits from your life, such as smoking, drinking, a lack of exercise, too much TV or too much spending and too little saving and investing. Just start the change, make it into a daily routine and watch how it now becomes the new habit, just don’t give up over the first few weeks! How about you, what habits are you trying to install in your life?
