Frugal Exercise – Walk, Jog, Bike & Even Surf!
June 20, 2014
Keeping up with an exercise program not only makes you feel great and keeps your weight down, it can also potentially save you a lot of money in terms of health care costs, so eating healthy and exercising form a major part of the frugal life style.
Try avoiding expensive gym memberships and using what nature has to offer instead. For me walking or jogging around the neighborhood is very enjoyable, and includes a beautiful long beach and a nearby lagoon. Nothing like exercising in the fresh air (if your not in a freezing part of the country, even then it can be fun if you are suitably dressed for it!). Perhaps my best cardio training comes from my bike to work, a 10 mile trip each way. This includes a relative steep hill of 400ft elevation gain at the end of ride to work, just to make sure I’ve got my heart pumping and the calories are being burnt! Also, a nice long down hill at the start of the bike back home is very much appreciated.
I also have a weight set that I purchased many years ago, and I try use everyday to keep up the muscle mass, and hence make sure my metabolism is high. I am also fortunate to be close to the beach, so now that I have my surfboards and a wetsuit (bought from Craiglist & friends) I can go an get an adrenaline fueled dose of fun for free each and every morning! How about you, what’s your frugal work out routine?
